Hydro Operation and Maintenance Services Pvt. Ltd. (HOMS) was established by highly experienced hydropower professionals to provide professional management services in the field of operation and maintenance of hydropower projects. With the increase in privately owned and developed hydro projects in Nepal, there is growing need for operation and maintenance (O&M) services which can deliver efficient, timely and economical solutions. HOMS objective is to maintain the plant in a very high standard by using good O&M practices, qualified and trained manpower and innovative technology. A key distinguishing feature of hydropower from other sources of energy is the huge initial investment and very less operation cost with long life period without major overhauling. A developer puts a lot of investment to develop a project and expects good return over a period of 30-35 years period. However, if the Operation and Maintenance is not done systematically and efficiently, the project may incur huge operation, maintenance and replacement cost which will ultimately return in poor return, if any. Therefore good O&M practices are critical to maintain this longevity. Facilities that are continuously maintained in good condition can operate for decades without major work, whereas plants that are allowed to deteriorate require constant attention and frequent major refurbishment. Lack of effective O&M can result in loss of electricity production and revenues, high replacement costs, high outage rates, performance losses, and premature large refurbishment costs. Poor O&M practices can also affect employee and public safety. Serious failures can result in fatalities, social problems and property damage.
